About three weeks after his first visit Berlin, the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras headed further east to sit down for his first official meeting with his Russian counterpart President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.

During the two-day meeting in Moscow, Tsipras raised the issue of European unity against Russia and of the EU sanctions decided upon due to Moscow’s role in the war in eastern Ukraine.

Forced to search quickly for liquidity to deal with his  internal problems, the Greek premier ostensibly used Russia to warn Brussels.

What is at stake is European unity and therefore the strength of the Eurozone.
